Unlocking AI Development with GitHub Models

Empowering Developers with AI Tools

In the ever-evolving world of technology, we believe that every developer can become an AI developer with the right tools and training. That’s why we’ve launched GitHub Models on the GitHub Marketplace. This platform is designed for developers to explore and experiment with a curated collection of top AI models.

Introducing GitHub Models

The GitHub Marketplace provides a handpicked selection of models accessible with the entitlements attached to your GitHub account, allowing seamless integration into your projects. Let’s take a closer look at one of the newest models, GPT-40.

Interacting with GPT-40

To start, we can pass an initial user prompt to interact with GPT-40. We also have the option to use the playground to adjust various parameters:

  • System Prompt: Customize the context and behavior of the model.
  • Temperature: Alter the randomness of the model’s responses to enhance creativity.

Exploring Different Models

After adjusting the parameters, we can simulate interactions by sending user prompts to see how GPT-40 performs. However, if we’re curious about how a smaller model handles a similar scenario, we can switch to 53 Mini Instruct. Its performance is impressive and worth evaluating!

Accessing Model Details

For those looking to delve deeper into the capabilities of each model, the Details page provides comprehensive resources:

  • Readme: Documentation and usage guidelines.
  • Evaluation: Performance metrics and user feedback.
  • Transparency: Insights into how the model works and its training data.

Getting Started with Code

Once you’ve selected a model, you can start implementing it within your code effortlessly. By clicking the Code button, you will receive detailed getting started instructions. GitHub Codespaces offer a preconfigured development environment equipped with SDKs and sample code.

Since the model API calls are linked to your GitHub account entitlements, you don’t need to add an API key or sign up for additional services, streamlining your experimentation process.

Experimenting with Updates

Let’s take our experimentation further by updating our streaming sample to utilize 53 Mini 4K Instruct. We can also modify the prompts to achieve desired outcomes.

Leveraging GitHub CLI for Enhanced Functionality

The entitlements we mentioned are available wherever you log in, including through the GitHub CLI. For example, we can use AI models to generate quiz questions for first-year computer science students to assess their knowledge of Git.

Moreover, you can combine other CLI commands with the GitHub CLI. For instance, we can summarize the last 10 commits in a repository using 53 Mini Instruct. This integration minimizes friction, giving developers more freedom to explore and experiment with AI models.
