Unlocking Your Learning Potential: The Best AI Apps for Studying

The Power of Learning Fast

Being able to learn new things quickly is a superpower—whether you’re a student or a professional looking to study something new. Thankfully, there are numerous AI apps available that can help enhance your learning experience. After reviewing various options, I’ve compiled a list of the eight best AI apps for studying.

1. Traverse

Traverse is a unique visual note-taking app that blends the best features of mind mapping, flashcards, and bidirectional linking. What sets Traverse apart is its unique approach to organizing information. You can create multiple whiteboards, called ‘traverses’, each dedicated to a specific topic, book, project, or class. Within each Traverse, you can create notes and visually arrange concepts.

One of its standout features is the ability to create flashcards for each note, either by using a dedicated flashcard button or by highlighting text you want to memorize. Additionally, Traverse generates mind maps using your notes, connecting them with lines and arrows to visually represent relationships between concepts.

Though not as seamless as Anki, Traverse does facilitate efficient learning on the go with its mobile app.

2. Recall

Recall is an excellent choice for learners who enjoy gathering information from various online sources like YouTube and blogs. This app allows you to take notes and create flashcards from any online content instantly. With its browser extension, you can get summaries of web pages and save them to Recall, where AI turns your saved content into structured flashcards.

While it lacks mind maps, Recall features a graph view where you can visually explore your studies, and it also has a mobile app for on-the-go reviews.

3. Mapify

Mapify caters to visual learners, specializing in generating mind maps from online content. This feature is particularly beneficial when digesting complex information, such as long YouTube videos or articles. It also offers a mobile version for learners on the move. Besides studying, Mapify is handy for brainstorming and planning.

4. Skillshare

Skillshare has become an extensive online learning community for creatives, offering thousands of classes across a range of topics—from film and animation to productivity tools. As someone who has benefited from Skillshare’s resources, I can attest that it’s an excellent place to explore and develop creative skills at your own pace.

The community aspect allows users to share projects and receive feedback, which is invaluable for personal growth. Skillshare is currently offering a great deal where the first 500 people to sign up through a special link get a one-month free trial.

5. Study Portion

Study Portion is an AI-powered learning tool gaining popularity among students. You can upload lecture notes, videos, or articles, and the app’s AI analyzes the content to generate study materials. It can quickly create flashcards from your uploaded content and even engage you in a chat format, allowing for a conversational understanding of the topics.

The AI notes feature summarizes key points and outlines from uploaded documents, making it useful for tackling long textbooks or research papers.

6. Revisely

Revisely offers an extensive collection of resources tailored for students, particularly those preparing for exams. With its collection of past papers sorted by topic and the ability to generate flashcards and quizzes using AI, it allows students to focus on the areas most pertinent to their studies.

7. Albus

Albus adopts a visual-learning-centric approach, where you can create multiple whiteboards for different topics, and it automatically generates notes for you. Just type in what you wish to learn, and Albus will provide key concepts. Though it doesn’t generate flashcards, its capacity to visually present information is beneficial for grasping the bigger picture.

8. Renoid

Renoid is tailored for students, seamlessly integrating flashcard creation into note-taking. Unlike traditional flashcard apps, Renoid allows you to maintain context with each question while supporting various flashcard formats. Its recent addition of AI-generated flashcards saves time in the studying process, although it has a steeper learning curve for newcomers.

Conclusion

Last but not least, Noi is a tool that stands out for its ability to provide step-by-step solutions to math problems through screenshots. This feature is especially valuable for students tackling challenging math assignments.

Whether you’re looking to refine your study habits or accelerate your learning process, these AI apps offer powerful resources to enhance your educational journey. For more visual learning tools, check out my video on my favorite visual note-taking apps. Thank you for watching!

  1. I've tried a few of these apps, but I find having a clean new tab with Astirna New Tab makes a big difference for my focus.

  2. AHHHH, these apps seem like lifesavers, providing resources that can genuinely help me succeed. But I’m wondering about their effectiveness in terms of metacognitive skills like understanding how to learn, think, and process material effectively for exams, especially since the questions can be complex and long. I was diagnosed with a neurocognitive disorder impacting these abilities, and I feel like I’m on the verge of dropping out of college because of these challenges. I was a nursing major before getting evaluated and had to change my major due to the learning style, but I must admit these apps look extremely helpful. My issue is more about knowing what’s important and what isn’t. People always say study skills include studying what’s important, creating flashcards, taking notes, etc… and I get it. But what if I don’t know what to write on the flashcards or take note of or what’s important? It’s not like I know what’s going to be on the test or how the teacher expects us to learn. I’m also thinking about an app that could compare recorded lectures with the assigned textbook content. An app that could generate content from both and compare them would be extremely beneficial. But I think you've saved my life. Please reveal more if they are any more as many as possible, especially one that I am talking about. Could these be downloaded on our phones or tablet? Both iPhone and androids?

  3. Excellent video Shu. I have a question for you, what is the difference between Heptabase and traverse? Which is the advantage of one versus the other. I want to learn languages, I already have Heptabase fro deep thinking and planning. So Traverse will add something unique, or it is only flashcards? Thanks a lot for your recommendation of which one will you choose,

  4. Excellent Video, super useful, but super hard to choose which one to use. If I want to learn languages, Frenchn or German for example, which two you would recommend? Thanks a lot

  5. Wow, just pretty amazing what AI is capable of and people got their head around to create something helpful.
    Thanks for the video.
I totally love doaceo so that example in particular blew me away 😅

  8. @shuomi do you use the ios shortcuts app alot? I think alot of these ai apps can be replaced by uos shortcuts and chatgpt. I was excited to try these apps initially but was a little disappointed when I found out that they don’t support ios shortcuts. Please ask these app developers to make ios shortcuts!

  9. NotebookLM is the best study app hands down and it’s free. It’s hard to take your content seriously when you have not mentioned it.

  10. Many might need this tip : regardless which app you choose,

If you don’t actively try to explain , break it down , recombine and synthesise out other means of using the information,

All the apps will be wasted money

For quick dumping and sum up yes, these are great but if it’s not properly handled for learning you will be head banging on the wall

  11. Like most of these since their very visual. Something that came out from google thats pretty good is notebookLM. You can upload your own sources, ask questions or ask the Ai to make questions for you and then it will return answers with citations which you can click to see where it got the answer from.
